History and Other Particulars of DoRego’s Executive Summary of the Business Minimize

Joe Dorego opened the First Captain DoRego's in Cape Town in the early seventies at the place where the well-known Grootte Schuur café; was situated. Alf Dorego and Carlos Nunes were trading in Bloemfontein at the time and converted their existing business "Lusitania Fisheries"; to the Captain DoRego's concept. After a successful period the Cape Town operation was sold to Major Foods, and later to Inter-leisure. The Bloemfontein operation remained independent through this period and the brand was taken over by Carlos Nunes in 1996. Gerald Brown and Cedric Brown, who have been involved with the Franchise since 1996 when they opened their first store in Kimberley, purchased the entire Franchise operation in 2005.

The then Captain DoRego's' s Franchise underwent a major change, with striking new logos and colours; a complete new design incorporating state of the art equipment was successfully adopted. The Franchise has since expanded at a good pace and 61 vibrant stores are now in operation. Plans for 2010 are well underway with approximately five new stores opening and/or planned for 2010. The brand which is a purely South African concept is fast establishing itself as one of the most successful and dominant franchise groups in the country. In addition to its growth strategy, Captain DoRego's underwent a brand “revamp” during 2009 and have dropped the “Captain” from their trademark. The group now trades as DoRego's and a new and exciting trademark was developed. DoRego's is a prosperous franchise operation, catering for all income groups. We offer our valuable customers a variety of food items ranging from chicken, fish & chips, burgers and sandwiches. Selected stores incorporate a fresh/frozen fish counter.
